Charles Edwood Ganashonberg, Slow 4 Caalm, Clärenore Farahvaši and Jean PhȺȺl deliver a 4th album, chiseled and thought out, dense and complex, as refined as powerful. They spawn here among the meanders of a dark and primitive rock, saturated with dreamlike chiaroscuro.

In 11 tracks, in less than 45 minutes, The Underground Secession is in fact a kind of mutant and psychedelic rock tinged with folk and post-rock, from which amazing climaxes emerge. The climbs are Dantean and the descents are breathtaking.

Wealth of harmonies, melodies, choirs, strings, rhythms, effects, transes, from suspended stops to frantic beginnings, everything in this album is lush. Feu Robertson has fun modulating each of his compositions to the extreme, for an album like a bursting treasure hunt, where the tracks follow each other without ever resembling.

The band takes risks to renew itself, to always push the limits, to look elsewhere….

The quartet shows its paw on the 2 long pieces (7 minutes), Smoking Kills and Loose Lips, where a lo-fi lunar post-rock undulates like the boa, calling Eros and Thanatos for 1 dance and 1 prayer, like 2 suffocations. And as on the album 3 Tremblez Tyrans, 2 instrumentals tracks offer interludes to catch your breath, between tachycardia and bradycardia.

Side A: Eternity, album opening and vibrant dedication to the poet Rimbaud (translated). Smoking Kills (already mentioned). Soft Summer I, who look towards the insurrectional anthem. Easter Hipster combines the calm and bubbling of intranquility Zen. Long Board Surfing, blessing from waves in the glory of the great female surfer Belinda Baggs, in a frenzy of hallucinated punk rock. Finally, Canticle of Ecstasy brings back the peace and hypnotic trance of the infinite arpeggio…

Side B: Soft Summer II starts off on the right foot to give birth to a paranormal ice storm, a post-trauma dance, a real lambada for zombies by force of garage that runs here in slow motion. Hawaiian Crossroad offers a kitsch beach from a lullaby based on diverting exoticism, to end up in Polish dance supported by angelic choirs, just a dream! Love Shrine is a plunge into a love story, ecstatic and so full of hope, with almost sad ghosts and a certain drama. Harmonica Montana is the group in noise, ambient music and free improvisation. Finally, already mentioned, Loose Lips for conclusing….

A delight for music lovers, the luxurious and numbered vinyl edition is complemented by a 14-pages booklet featuring lyrics from the album and photos of the band from 2010 to 2019.

En 11 morceaux, en moins de 45 minutes, The Underground Secession offre la prouesse d’un rock mutant et psychédélique teinté de folk et de post-rock, d’où surgissent des climax sidérants. Les montées sont dantesques et les descentes vertigineuses.

Richesse des harmonies, des mélodies, des chœurs, des cordes, des rythmiques, des effets, des transes, des arrêts en suspension aux reprises effrénées, tout dans cet album est luxuriant. Feu Robertson s’amuse encore une fois à moduler à l’extrême chacune de ses compositions, pour un album en forme de jeu de piste éclaté, où les morceaux se suivent sans jamais se ressembler. Un groupe qui prend des risques à se renouveler, à toujours repousser les cadres, à chercher l’ailleurs…

Le quatuor montre particulièrement sa patte sur les 2 deux longs morceaux de plus de 7 minutes, Smoking Kills et Loose Lips, où un post-rock lo-fi lunaire ondule tel le boa, convoquant Eros et Thanatos pour 1 danse et 1 prière, comme 2 suffocations.  

Et comme sur l’album 3 Tremblez Tyrans, 2 instrumentaux offrent des intermèdes pour reprendre son souffle, entre tachycardie et bradycardie.

Face A : Eternity en forme d’ouverture d’album et de vibrante dédicace au poète Rimbaud (traduit). Smoking Kills (déjà citée). Soft Summer I qui lorgnent vers l’hymne insurrectionnel. Easter Hipster mêle le calme et le bouillonnement du zen intranquille. Long Board Surf, ou la bénédiction des flots tout à la gloire de la grande surfeuse Belinda Baggs, dans un déchainement de punk rock halluciné. Enfin, Canticle of Ecstasy ramène la paix et la transe hypnotique de l’arpège infini…

Face B : Soft Summer II démarre sur les chapeaux de roue pour accoucher d’un verglas paranormal, une danse post-trauma, une veritable lambada pour zombies à force de garage qui tourne ici au ralenti. Hawaiian Crossroad offre une plage kitch d’une berceuse à base de détournement d’exotisme, pour finir en dance polonaise soutenue par des choeurs angéliques, le rêve! Love Shrine, c’est une plongée dans une histoire d’amour, extatique et si pleine d’espoir, aux fantomes presque tristes et au drame certain. Harmonica Montana, c’est le groupe en noise, en musique ambient et en improvisation libre. Enfin, déjà citée, Loose Lips…

Comble de bonheur pour les collectionneurs mélomanes, l’édition vinyle luxueuse et numérotée est agrémentée d’un livret 14 pages regroupant lyrics de l’album et photos du groupe de 2010 à 2019.
